Bring it on 2019!

Are you looking to do some home projects this new year? Whether it's normal home maintenance or a long awaited renovation, proper planning and timing is key. Let’s take a look at the best time of year to get these projects done according to the Washington Post.

Spring

In the spring, we all are excited to get outside, but the outside of your home may have taken quite the winter beating. Now is the time to repair that decking and pool if you want to enjoy it all summer long. Thinking about installing a fence? Plan on getting your permits together early. You will want to be ready the moment the ground is thaw enough to work in.

We can’t talk about spring without mentioning rain- so how are your gutters looking? Those long cold winter months can really have damaging effects on gutters, so don’t overlook them! Repair and clean them to ensure that spring rain reaches the flowers, not your basement.

Another project to consider in spring is air conditioner maintenance or installation. You may not need to use it yet, but you will be happy you planned ahead when the big temps hit.

Summer

Everyone loves a good deal, and summer is the time to buy those windows you have been eyeballing! But don’t hesitate, as it can take months for orders to be fulfilled.

Thinking ahead can also bring in the benefits when it comes to home heating. Although you may not want to think of heat during the hot summer months, getting annual maintenance of the furnace, fireplace, chimney or other home heating components is a good idea. Beat the fall and winter rush by taking care of these items early.

Fall

Now is the time to take advantage of a slow down in the home project season. Exterior painting, roofing, siding, and other projects can be done now that contractor schedules have freed up a bit from the summer frenzy. Other exterior items to take into consideration includes lawn maintenance. Like your home, your landscape needs to be prepped for colder temperatures and conditions.

Inside the home, prepare to get cozy! This is the perfect time to replace aging weather stripping, and fill any spots that cold air can creep into. Places to focus on would be around doors and windows, and attic and basement doors or openings.

Winter

Even though it's cold outside, it doesn’t mean you can’t improve your space! Winter is an ideal time to tackle those interior painting projects, and the best time to score deals on paint and supplies. Thinking of a remodel? Winter is ideal for material and contractor availability - but start planning early, because it can take months before your ready to break ground.

Now that you know the best time to get things done, make 2019 work for you and your home!
