Renovate Right!

Whether you are planning to sell, or just purchased a new home- remodeling your house can really change the feeling, and value of your home. From a new kitchen, to a master suite addition, there are so many options out there for improving the look, feel, and functionality of your home. But where to begin? Take this advice from Realtor.com when deciding on which reno to take on first!

Our top choice-The Kitchen- The “heart of the home” is the most used space in just about every home, and because of that, you can get the most bang for your buck here. Yes, it’s going to cost more to renovate than most other rooms, and yes, it’s going to be a little inconvenient to grill outside for a few weeks. BUT, there is a reward at the end! A typical renovation of the kitchen can run about $22,000, depending on your location and ability to do work yourself. Not only will you end up with a brand-new beautiful space to enjoy, but if you are looking to sell, you could recoup up to 80% of this cost! And more, homes with updated kitchens and baths always do better on the market- win, win!

A very close second- The Bathroom- Let’s be honest, the bathroom is not a place we usually think to be glamorous or relaxing. But it should be! We spend a lot of time in there… so why not make it a place you want to be in? Although bathrooms tend to be smaller than kitchens, the price of renovating is similar ranging from $15,000 and up depending on features and finishes. Expect to recoup about 50-60% from a fresh new bathroom. And in the meantime, enjoy that beautiful space!

And last, but not least- Bedrooms & Living Areas- These spaces in a home can be renovated in a few ways, depending on your goals. Want to add an extra bedroom, but can’t find the space? An addition may be the best option for you. Or maybe you have the space, but the current layout isn’t working for your modern family. In this case, adding and subtracting walls within your current footprint might be the best, and most cost-effective choice. Space and layout is good, but maybe you still want a fresh new look? The power of paint will surprise you, and the cost is so minimal! There are so many resources for you to find design inspiration, like Pinterest, Houzz, HGTV and many, many more! Expect to recoup about 50-60% of these costs when selling.

Deciding to renovate is a big choice, but when done right, it can be bring in big rewards!
