Exploring the West Central ADK

The West Central region of Adirondack Park is pretty special. Am I saying this because it’s my favorite? Yes. Am I bias because I live here? Maybe.

But really though. We are pretty lucky in this area. We get the world-class beauty of the Adirondacks all around us. The trees, the lakes, the bears- it’s all apart of the one of a kind, Adirondack experience.

If you have been searching for the ideal getaway, second, or vacation home- you have found the perfect place. There is a reason why the Adirondacks have been ranked the number one place to travel to by Travel and Leisure. As one of America’s oldest travel destinations, it continues to awe and amaze.

For you avid visitors, property owners, and first-timers- here are a few places and things to do that I would recommend to help you fall in love with the ADKs- if you haven’t already!

  • Take the Dinner cruise that Raquette Lake Navigation does in Raquette Lake, NY.
The food is terrific, the scenery is amazing and they give a nice history of the lake and it’s surroundings.

  • Climb Rondaxe Mountain, better known as Bald Mountain. Just north of Old Forge Village, it’s a bit of a hike, but the views are so worth it! The vista overlooks the Fulton Chain of Lakes and is one not to be missed!

  • The Summer Concert Series on the Old Forge Pond offers free concerts on Sunday evenings in July and August- and is a total blast!

  • Canoe/Kayak the Moose River in Old Forge. If you don't have canoes or kayaks, Tickners Canoes, and Mountainman Outdoors in Old Forge, or Frisky Otter in Inlet rent canoes.

  • Play golf on the Thendara Golf course or Inlet Golf Course They are incredibly beautiful, challenging courses.

  • Don’t forget to just take a stroll around town-shopping in the local shops is always fun!

  • Visit the Adirondack Experience (formerly known as the Blue Mountain Museum) in Blue Mountain Lake, NY. Amazing, and informative!

  • Visit the Wild Center in Tupper Lake, NY. Super Cool!

  • Drive to Lake Placid, that is the home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. There are many "Olympic Venues" available to tour. Just a beautiful, quaint Adirondack Village.
